Prosecutors, police conducts searches in a case unlawful possession of firearms and ammunnition

Prosecutors from the General Prosecutor's Office are conducting, on Monday, together with police officers from the DCCO (Directorate for Combating Organised Crime) and the Department for Weapons, Explosives and Hazardous Substances, 11 house searches in Dambovita County in a case concerning offences related to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and aggravated smuggling.

'Specifically, the investigation targets the criminal activity of a person who illegally imported lethal firearms and ammunition from Turkey into Romania, with the intention of selling them with the assistance of other individuals. After being brought into the country, the weapons were stored in Dambovita County and later sold to various individuals within the same county," the General Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

The Romanian Police specified that the suspect is a 35-year-old man who, since 2024, has possessed several firearms, including ghost guns, suspected of being illegally important from Turkey into Romania.

Three individuals are expected to be brought in for questioning.

The operation is supported by officers from the Neamt Organised Crime Combat Service, the General Police Directorate from Bucharest, the Buzau and Dambovita County Police Inspectorates, the Directorate for Animal Protection, forensic experts from the National Institute of Forensics, operatives from the Special Interventions and Actions Service, and the Special Intervention Brigade of the Gendarmerie.
