Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar on Monday stated, related to the case file concerning the intervention of the gendarmes during the August 10 protests, that military prosecutors are conducting an "impartial and effective investigation, without any outside interference."
The Prosecutor General on Monday issued a press release in which he replies to the statements made by Interior Minister Carmen Dan, who said that the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General's Office into the protests of August 10, in which the chief of the Gendarmerie and a Secretary of State with the MAI (Ministry of Internal Affairs) are accused, represents an attempt to intimidate the a fundamental institutions of the state."
"The Prosecutor General from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Augustin Lazar, assures the public opinion that the prosecutors from the military prosecutor's offices section are conducting an impartial, effective investigation, without any outside interference. Moreover, the Prosecutor General of the PICCJ wanted to send a message of trust in the professionalism and impartiality of the prosecutors working on this case, who benefit from all the necessary resources to clarify the facts and solve the case in a reasonable amount of time, while observing the principles of legality, the presumption of innocence and finding the truth," reads a press release of the Prosecutor General's Office.
On Monday, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, stated that the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General's Office into the August 10 protests represented "an attempt to intimidate a fundamental institution of the state."
