Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday that the Government will offer private sports clubs the possibility to benefit from state funding on condition that the money is used strictly for sports activities for children and youth.

Marcel Ciolacu mentioned, at the beginning of the Executive meeting, several investment measures in the field of sport, in the Romanian Olympic Committee (COSR) base in Izvorani and in the modernization of the "Lia Manoliu" Complex swimming pool, mentioning that in the last two years, the Romanian state has completed 200 sports halls, 50 sports facilities and 16 swimming pools, and that there are 380 other objectives in progress.

"I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the Olympic athletes for the eight medals they have won so far in Paris. We all hope to win one more. This government must prove by deeds and provide athletes with modern infrastructure and optimal conditions for performance. We have approved all the investment documents in the COSR base in Izvorani and we are resuming the modernization procedure of the swimming pool in the Lia Manoliu Sport Complex, which will be ready in time for the next Olympic cycle. In the last two years, the Romanian state has finalized 200 sports halls, almost 50 sports facilities and 16 swimming pools, and there are currently 380 objectives in progress for which we have allocated one billion euros," premier Ciolacu said at the beginning of the Government meeting.

The prime minister mentioned that the Romanian Lottery has already transferred 1.5 million RON from the "Team Romania" lottery campaign to the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.

"This is the money with which we complete the prize fund for Olympic medal winners. And here we also include, as promised, the two gymnasts: Sabrina Voinea and Ana Maria Barbosu. Both of them deserve this," added Marcel Ciolacu.

He said that the Government will make an important decision to support and develop sports activities for children and juniors.

"We offer private sports clubs the possibility to benefit from state funding with an exclusive condition: the money must be used strictly for sports activities with children and juniors," the prime minister said.
