Romanians in the diaspora mobilized on Sunday and showed up in record numbers at the polls, with this year's being the largest turnout since the 1989 Revolution.
More than one million Romanians have already voted in the diaspora, in the second round of the presidential elections, agerpres reports.
Shortly after 1:00 pm, according to data provided in real time by the Permanent Electoral Authority, 1,001,429 Romanians have already expressed their choice abroad.
For comparison, the turnout in the previous presidential elections was as follows:

First round attendance: 675,348
Second round attendance: 944,077
Voting stations abroad: 838
*** 2024 Voting abroad in the first round of the presidential, which was canceled on December 6

Romanians in the diaspora with a right to vote have been going to the polls since Friday to choose the one who will lead the country for the next five years, with voting set to end at 9:00 pm, Romania time.
