President Nicusor Dan declared on Monday that Romania can contribute, through its geographical position, to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"We also tackled the reconstruction of Ukraine. Romania can, through its geographical position, contribute to this process. The Port of Constanta, which is the largest Black Sea and Danube port to connect with Western Europe, provides a cheap means of transport, which will come in handy during Ukraine's rebuilding process," the head of the state said at a press conference delivered together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, at the 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' Military Base, agerpres.
He emphasized that Romania will begin extracting gas from the Black Sea in 2027, which will result in the energy security of the country, but of Europe as well.
"We border the Black Sea, which is extremely important for Romania and for Europe; the importance of this resides in the fact that, starting in 2027, Romania will begin extracting offshore gas and this will contribute to Romania and Europe's energy security. It is important because it is the simplest, most direct communication - the moment this will be secure - between Europe and Central Asia," President Dan said.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met on Monday with President Nicusor Dan at the 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' Military Base.
The two top officials traveled by helicopter to Constanta, where they visited the 'Regele Ferdinand' Frigate, after which they returned to the 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' Air Base.
The head of the Community Executive embarked on Friday on a tour of so-called frontline states to reassure them of Europe's support against Russian aggression and bolster defense spending, a spokesperson for the EU executive said. So far, Von der Leyen has visited Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and now Romania.
