President Nicusor Dan announced on Sunday, in a press statement, that he will initiate a referendum in January within the body of magistrates with a single question: 'Does the Superior Council of Magistracy act in the public interest or does it act in the interest of a group within the judicial system?', inform Agerpres.
'I will initiate in January, immediately after the holidays, a referendum within the body of magistrates with a single question: does the Superior Council of Magistracy [CSM] act in the public interest or does it act in the interest of a group within the judicial system? And if magistrates as a whole say yes, the CSM acts in the public interest, we will continue legislative discussions, but if, however, the majority of magistrates say that the CSM does not represent the public interest but the interest of the professional guild, then the CSM will leave as a matter of urgency,' Nicusor Dan said.
He pointed out that, after reading complaints received from magistrates, the conclusion is that there is a category of magistrates, members of the CSM, from the leadership of the courts, who do not act in the public interest but act in the interest of a group they represent.
'I said all these things (...) which are also reflected in these materials and in the report that we will give you, they are accusations, complaints, yes, they are not facts, and we will carry out checks into those reported, it will take a long time, but I believe the situation we are in is serious,' President Nicusor Dan said.
