President Nicusor Dan said he received hundreds of pages of "relevant" materials from magistrates about problems in Justice and the consultations scheduled on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace will take place in several discussion rounds - both with groups of magistrates who wish to participate together and individually, Agerpres reports.
"I have received hundreds of pages of relevant materials from magistrates about problems in Justice. As promised, I am reviewing them this weekend, and by the end of Monday I will provide conclusions after discussions with those who registered for an audience. Monday's consultations will take place in several rounds of discussions: both with groups of magistrates who wish to participate together and individually with those who explicitly requested this by email," the head of state wrote on his Facebook page.
In order to ensure participants' confidentiality, journalists will not be allowed in the discussion room, the president added.
"I will make the conclusions public at the end of the day within a press conference. In parallel, my colleagues are preparing a summary of the documents received, which we will publish tomorrow without revealing the senders' identities," Nicusor Dan added.
President Nicusor Dan invited all magistrates wishing to report problems in the system to an open-ended discussion on Monday from 10:00.
"When 200 magistrates say there is an integrity problem in the justice system, the matter is very serious. I invite all magistrates who want to report issues in the justice system to a discussion without a time limit, on Monday, 22 December, starting at 10:00," the head of state announced on 11 December.
The initiative follows a message of support signed by several hundred prosecutors and judges for the magistrates who had the courage to make disclosures in the Recorder report on problems in the judicial system.
"The invitation for Monday morning is for people who want to report integrity issues in Justice, and here I want to make a clarification - it is possible that we were not precise enough, I did not specify whether it would be public, I implied it would be, there may be people who do not want to take responsibility publicly, and in that case, there will also be a confidential meeting. On the other hand, if accusations are made publicly, it is normal for those being accused to have the opportunity to respond and I will also provide them with that possibility. I want there to be a public debate in society on the state of Justice," the head of state explained.
