The Liberals uphold in the simple motion on Agriculture, tabled with the Deputies' Chamber and titled "After Caragea's plague, Romania hit by Daea's swine fever", that in the two years since being appointed minister, Petre Daea has proven to be incapable of measuring up to his office, disastrously handling the prevention, combat and eradication of the African swine fever in Romania.
"The so-called actions carried out by Minister Petre Daea, since the onset of the first African swine fever outbreak in Romania (July 2017) and until now, have demonstrated that he does not have the qualities, knowledge, dedication and responsibility necessary to a minister in office. The current simple motion comes to sanction the serious slippages in food security and combating of epizootic diseases, incumbent upon the minister in accordance with the Government Decision no. 830/2016. From the onset of the first African swine fever outbreak in Romania, we have heard from the current Agriculture Minister only apologies and excuses about how he cannot or why he cannot act, passing the entire responsibility either to the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, either to veterinary medics, either to the National Committee for emergency situations, either to local centres for combating diseases, either to the prefects from the respective counties," the signatories of the motion specify.
The initiators of the motion mention that the map of the African swine fever evolution in Europe shows that Romania is the most affected country by this epidemic, over 70 percent of the number of outbreaks in the European Union being registered in Romania.
The Liberals point out that the lack of action and vision of the Agriculture Minister has contributed significantly to the rapid spread of the epidemic, with 13 counties presently being affected country wide, and the number of localities exceeding 200.
They state that the responsibility for this serious situation also belongs to Minister Petre Daea, who has lost control of the situation and has neglected the early warnings.
The Liberals also say that the exact amount of compensation for the damages caused by African swine fever is not yet known and communicate to the minister that he will remain in the history of Romania as "the main artisan of the destruction of the pig breeding and the relevant industry in Romania."
