Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Wednesday conveyed to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz an invitation to visit Bucharest this year, 'to continue discussions and make concrete progress on joint projects.'
Ilie Bolojan, who is on a two-day official visit to Berlin, met Friedrich Merz on Wednesday.
'The Romania-Germany relation is not only about institutions and policies, but also about people. I thanked Chancellor Merz for the constant support given to Romanians who live and work in Germany, as well as to the German community in Romania, for preserving their identity and promoting their cultural heritage. The bond between people makes our partnership stronger. I conveyed to Chancellor Merz the invitation to meet in Bucharest this year, to continue discussions and make concrete progress on joint projects,' the prime minister wrote on Facebook.
He said that the relation between Romania and Germany is very good, built on economic cooperation, trust and shared strategic interests.
'Today in Berlin, I had a focused discussion with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. I thank him for the welcome and for the open dialogue. The relation between Romania and Germany is very good, built on economic cooperation, trust and shared strategic interests. Our countries can achieve more together if we focus on results. We have a solid foundation, common interests and the capacity to make effective decisions,' the head of government said.
According to him, Germany is Romania's most important economic partner.
'We have strong bilateral trade, substantial investments and thousands of German companies that create jobs for over 200,000 Romanians. Beyond the figures, all this means trust, stability and a partnership that works. We discussed how we can further develop this cooperation, especially in strategic areas such as defence, industry and energy. These are areas that will determine Europe's competitiveness in the coming years, and Romania wants to be a partner you can rely on,' Bolojan said.
The memorandum of cooperation signed between the defence ministers of the two countries is not only aimed at modernising the industry, but also at strengthening broader cooperation, including in research, development, joint exercises and other forms of partnership, the prime minister added.
'The security of the eastern flank and the Black Sea remains a priority, and Germany's support in this regard is very important. We continue to support efforts for a lasting peace in Ukraine and pay special attention to the Republic of Moldova, whose European path is important for the stability of the region,' Ilie Bolojan said.
