Prime minister Ilie Bolojan on Friday discussed with representatives of the Association of Large Retail Chains in Romania about the promotion of local products, and also about the capping of the commercial markup for foodstuffs.
"During the discussions, the representatives of the retailers mentioned that, basically, they do not agree with the intervention of the state in the economy, including through capping the commercial markup for foodstuffs, but considering the current situation they will comply with the Government's decision in this regard," a press release issued by the Executive reads.
The agenda of the consultations also included the promotion of Romanian products, both in stores in the country and abroad. Bolojan stated that public policies will be developed to support Romanian producers.
"Retailer representatives showed their willingness to contribute to promoting Romanian producers on foreign markets, under competitive conditions, and underscored the need to increase domestic food production. Prime minister Ilie Bolojan stated that in collaboration with the business environment, public policies will be developed to support Romanian producers. The PM also thanked retailers for their investment projects and for their contribution to job creation and economic development," the Government reports.
The consultations were also attended by the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, state counselor Raul Gutin, and honorary counselor to the prime minister Ionut Dumitru.
