Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Friday that the bill on magistrates' pensions is "drafted correctly, complies with constitutional provisions" and that he expects it to get the Constitutional Court's greenlight.
Asked on broadcaster Radio Romania Actualitati whether he sees a political reason to step down or whether a possible Constitutional Court ruling admitting an exception of unconstitutionality would amount to a vote of censure, Bolojan replied:
"This bill is drafted correctly, complies with constitutional provisions and is moral towards our citizens. And, given that it respects constitutional aspects, I expect it to be greenlighted and to be in good order. This is the assumption I am starting from."
He also warned that a Constitutional Court decision unfavorable to the project could jeopardize funds allocated under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
"If the Constitutional Court's ruling is delayed, we will enter a situation where we will no longer be able to recover the more than EUR 200 million tied to the milestone on magistrates' pensions. There is an intermediate period in which clarifications can still be provided, but if the issue is not resolved, this will, unfortunately, be a very likely effect," Bolojan said.
