One hundred Romanian troops will train February 12 through 16 together with approximately 200 peer servicemen from Bulgaria, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. at the training center of the Romanian Land Forces in Babadag - Tulcea County as part of the Platinum Eagle 18.1 module of the Black Sea Rotational Force 18 (BSRF 18) multinational exercise.
"The Romanian Army is represented by Land Force troops of the 'Marasesti' 9th Mechanised Brigade, Romanian Navy troops of the 307th Marine Infantry Battalion and aircrew of the 'Lt. Aviator Gheorghe Mociornita' 86th Air Force Base," the Defence Ministry said in a Friday release.
Platinum Eagle 18.1 is aimed at increasing the ability of the participating forces to fight together, maintaining deployment and joint training capabilities by exercising joint logistic support, developing a regional environment favorable for multinational military co-operation, and enhancing the combat power of the troops of the participating countries.
"Scheduled as part of the training are tactical drills that include weapons firing, providing first aid in operating areas, exercising sub-unit command and control procedures," the release notes.
BSRF is an annual exercise led by the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa, taking place in the Black Sea, the Balkans and the Caucasus. Its purpose is to increase the level of interoperability through joint training of the military personnel for the participation in peacekeeping and counter-insurgency operations.
