President Nicusor Dan said on Thursday that the main problems of the Romanian economy are "not the best" management and insufficient capital, the statement being made at an event organized by the Polish-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the occasion of the Romanian-Polish Solidarity Day.
"Not the best management and not enough capital - those are the shortcomings that our economy has," said the head of state.
The president declared that Romania is a safe and predictable country.
"First of all, Romania is a safe and predictable country, boringly predictable externally, but for business I think that is something interesting. Then, Romania is a country that has a dynamic private economy, a private economy that has doubled its GDP in the last ten years and Romania is a large market, not as large as Poland, but a market of 20 million people that can be interesting," Nicusor Dan pointed out.
He said that Romania would most likely join the OECD this summer, and in 2027 gas extraction from the Black Sea will begin. The president added that the development of the Port of Constanta will make this place "an important point for trade in the region and beyond."
Nicusor Dan also said that the national defense industry has development prospects in the current context.
"Romania had a very consistent industry during the communist period, with exports all over the world, and that industry did not have a very happy management after '89, but the locations remained, the people remained quite well-trained," he added.
President Nicusor Dan is visiting Warsaw at the invitation of his counterpart Karol Nawrocki.
