Romania is implementing the national strategy for the defense industry, President Nicusor Dan stressed on Wednesday at a joint press conference delivered with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who is visiting Bucharest to participate in the current edition of the NATO-Industry Forum.
"Related to NATO and defense, Romania is implementing the National Defense Industry Strategy covering the period 2024 - 2030, that means that we take the revival of this economic area very seriously. Although we've had a history of a rather lacking management in recent years, the current context compels us to change and revive it," said the head of the state, agerpres reports.
He added that he discussed with the NATO head about the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic area and the collaboration required in this context, but also about the need to increase defense spending.
"We discussed the additional military capabilities that will be deployed to the entire Eastern Flank, and implicitly to Romania. On Romania's behalf, I mentioned that our country will continue to invest in reinforcing its military capabilities. We spoke a little about the Black Sea area, where Romania has a particular security interest as far as the Eastern Flank is concerned," the president said.
Romania will duly fulfill the commitments pledged in an allied context, Nicusor Dan also pointed out.
