Galati-based company Navrom SA announces that starting next week, due to losses recorded by the company, the ferry service for passengers and vehicles across the Danube between the village of IC Bratianu in Tulcea County and the municipality of Galati will be operated with a ferry of limited capacity and on a reduced schedule compared to the current one.
Starting Wednesday, April 15, the Danube crossing between the two localities will be ensured only by the small ferry Poienari 2, operating between 6:00 - 10:00 and 14:00 - 22:00, for passengers and vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Departures from IC Bratianu will take place on the hour, while departures from Galati will be at half past.
"Ever since the opening of the bridge between Tulcea and Braila counties we have been working at a loss, for the residents of IC Bratianu and Grindu (a locality neighboring IC Bratianu), and because we hoped the losses would not be that high. We have reached astronomical figures and it is no longer possible. This is the first option. We will see what the losses amount to, because these will exist in any situation. People's salaries are not covered, let alone re-motorization, fuel, taxes at the Captain's Office, cleaning at the pontoons. The losses are huge," Navrom SA executive director Mara Vasilache told the press.
She noted that students and teachers from the Tulcea villages of IC Bratianu and Grindu who commute to school do not pay for tickets.
"The small ferry can only take seven cars," the Navrom SA representative added.
At present, Navrom SA operates the Danube crossing between the two localities with a ferry capable of carrying more than 30 cars, running between 5:30 and 22:15.
The commissioning in 2023 of the Danube bridge between Galati and Braila counties - an investment by the Ministry of Transport financed through the Danube Delta Integrated Territorial Investment mechanism - led to the closure of several passenger and freight transport companies in Braila and Tulcea counties that had provided river crossings between the village of Smardan (Tulcea County) and the outskirts of Braila.
The Galati-based company is the only operator providing transport on the Danube between Galati and Tulcea, as well as between Isaccea (Tulcea County, Romania) and Orlivka (Odessa Region, Ukraine).
