The National Union of Romanian Employers (UNPR) has officially launched its branch in the Republic of Moldova, marking a strategic step towards strengthening economic cooperation between Romania and its neighbouring country, the employers' organisation said in a press release on Thursday.
"The opening of UNPR's branch in the Republic of Moldova represents more than an institutional expansion. It is a concrete step towards creating a permanent platform for dialogue between the business communities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova and the Moldovan public authorities, in support of the country's European path," UNPR President Ioan Lucian was quoted as saying in the release.
On this occasion, a UNPR delegation led by President Ioan Lucian paid a working visit to Chisinau between 21 and 23 January 2026. The agenda included a series of high-level official meetings with representatives of the Moldovan government, the academic and diplomatic communities, as well as other relevant national institutions.
The UNPR delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, as well as with ministers and state secretaries from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, alongside representatives of the Government's General Secretariat. Meetings were also held with Romania's Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Cristian-Leon Turcanu, and with the Rector of the Republic of Moldova State University, Igor Sarov, the source added.
The delegation included members of UNPR's leadership, representatives of its specialist committees, and business figures from Romania active in fields such as consultancy, energy, distribution, services and European funds.
Discussions focused on two main areas: the investment intentions of UNPR members in the Republic of Moldova and the formulation of proposals addressed to the Moldovan authorities, drawing on Romania's experience during its EU pre-accession and accession periods. Emphasis was placed on cooperation between the business environment and public institutions in order to create a stable and predictable economic framework.
"Through this initiative, UNPR aims to facilitate partnerships between Romanian and Moldovan companies, support joint investment projects and actively contribute to the development of a competitive economic climate in the region," the press release added.
