The National Liberal Party (PNL, opposition) demands the hearing of Prime Minister Viorica Dancila in Parliament over the August 10 anti-government rally and the African swine fever outbreaks.
"PNL has demanded today the hearing of the Prime Minister of the Government of Romania Viorica Dancila in a plenary sitting of Parliament, exactly at the beginning of the parliamentary session," Chamber of Deputies' Liberal floor leader Raluca Turcan said on Wednesday.
"It is mandatory that this session starts with the hearing of Premier Viorica Dancila in the Parliament plenary over the repression of the peaceful protests and the violent intervention of law enforcement against peaceful demonstrators. PNL requested today the hearing of PM Viorica Dancila at the government's question time, at the beginning of the parliamentary session," Turcan said.
"Romania's Prime Minister has to answer why Minister of Internal Affairs Carmen Dan has not yet been dismissed following the most disastrous intervention of the Gendarmerie against protesters since the miners' rampage and the brazen contradictions between the IntMin's statements and data and statements by the Gendarmerie and the Bucharest Prefect. The Prime Minister is bound to tell the truth before Parliament and we challenge her to tell the truth because providing false information to Parliament incurs criminal liability by dint of the law on ministerial accountability. Premier Viorica Dancila has the obligation, and we challenge her to do so, to quit reading lies from the scripts placed before her by her in-group and understand that otherwise she faces criminal liability under the law on ministerial accountability," Turcan said.
The Chamber of Deputies Liberal floor leader said the PM should also be required to provide explanations about the "disastrous management" of the swine flu crisis.
"We hope that the holders of the majority in the Parliament of Romania no longer build a wall against the disclosure of the truth," Turcan concluded.
