Judges with the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) on Saturday approved the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) request on the 30-day pre-trial arrest of MP Nicolae Paun, chairman of "Pro Europa" Roma Party Association, prosecuted for corruption offenses related to the conduct of some projects on European funds.
The decision is not final, but is enforceable, as such Nicolae Paun will be placed in the Bucharest Police detention centre.

Paun is charged with using or producing in bad faith false, inexact or incomplete statements and documents that led to misappropriation of European funds; changing the use of European funds in breach of the law, money embezzlement, conducting financial activity as trade deeds incompatible with the office held or conducting financial transactions to procure for self or others ill-gotten gains, influence buying, unduly influencing witnesses.
Moreover, he is also accused of tax evasion and using in bad-faith the goods or the credit of the association, for a purpose running contrary to its interests or to his own benefit or to favour another association in which he has direct or indirect interests. AGERPRES
