The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, approved the school programs for the new optional subjects in the student-chosen curriculum, namely "Elements of Digital Media Education" for grade 6 and "Education for Life: Choose! Act! Inspire!" for grades 5-7.
"Both subjects aim at fundamental competencies for today's world, so I would be happy if students chose them in as many numbers as possible! Regarding digital media education, this approach (1) is introduced for the first time at the gymnasium level and is thus an adaptation of the school to the challenges that children are subjected to in the world we live in, but (2) it also prepares the prerequisites for the digital media discipline that already exists at the high school level (and which will also be maintained in the new curriculum change at the high school level). With reference to education for life, the curriculum updates existing content at the gymnasium level and anticipates new content of this type, introduced through the curriculum reform at the high school level", declared the Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, quoted in a press release.
According to the cited source, the curriculum for the optional "Elements of Digital Media Education" aims to develop two essential competencies, given that young people and children are exposed daily to an increasing volume of information from the digital environment, and social networks and online content influence their way of thinking, communicating and understanding the world:
* managing interaction with the media using the principles of democratic citizenship, both for expressing one's own ideas through various types of media and for the responsible use of digital technologies;
* critical-reflective analysis of interaction with media and digital technologies, with the aim of understanding their influence and effects in relation to oneself, as a receiver, and to society.
The curriculum for the optional subject "Education for Life: Choose! Act! Inspire!" is organized as follows:
Grade 5 - "I Choose!: self-knowledge, identifying and prioritizing values, basing decisions on healthy personal principles";
Grade 6 - "I Act!: transforming intentions into deeds, assuming personal responsibility, collaboration and perseverance";
* Grade 7 - "I Inspire!: developing positive influence, collaborative leadership, resilience and courage in the face of challenges".
Through interactive activities (case studies, role-playing games, projects, artistic creation exercises and written reflections), the curriculum aims to support the integrated development of four major content areas: self-knowledge and personal values, emotional and social development - from intention to action and personal responsibility, leadership - positive influence and collaboration, resilience and adaptation in the face of challenges.
"The discipline promotes a pedagogy of experience and action, designed to encourage students to discover the power of responsible decisions, the courage of action, and the joy of inspiring change in their community. In this way, the curriculum contributes to shaping the profile of the high school graduate as an autonomous, responsible, involved, and capable person to lead by example," states the cited source.
The programs were developed in collaboration with the Center for Independent Journalism ("Elements of Digital Media Education"), respectively the Maxwell Association ("Education for Life: Choose! Act! Inspire!") and are available on the CNCE (National Center for Curriculum and Evaluation) website.
The documents were sent for publication in the Official Gazette.
