"It's important to identify those solutions of the future, that can allow us to move pass the false topics launched sometimes in the public debate. And in this regard, I cannot stop referring to those false topics (...) and I am referring here to an alleged RO-EXIT, which, in fact, is out of the question at political level or at the level of Romania's decision-makers," Negrescu told an event through which the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) marked the completion of the "Citizenship consultations for the future of the European Union" series.
He underscored that this idea "launched precisely to spark controversy" should receive a "firm response, a clear response, a constructive response, real solutions and, especially, real solutions that originate from what Romania and the Romanians want from this common projects."
The Minister-delegate for European Affairs mentioned that throughout the citizenship consultations for the future of the EU, the MAE tried to involve citizens in shaping up a constructive project for the future of the Union.
"Today, more than ever, we need to come up with a constructive project, a project for the future, a project which underscores that our country is a state with full rights, that has a message for everything this common construction means. I have generically called it RO-IN, basically those demarches that we are doing today with these consultations to increase the European profile of Romania. Because today, more than ever, we need to get out of the area of an elite familiar with European topics in order to involve citizens, wherever they are in the country. And this is what we have been trying to do on the occasion of these consultations, putting in the limelight everyone's standpoint, everyone's opinions, no matter where they live, regardless of the social condition, precisely in order to emphasize that the entire Romania is an European country and has, and can have a substantial contribution to this common future," Negrescu pointed out.
Among the directions that the Romanians want to be developed during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which came out during the citizenship consultations, Victor Negrescu brought to mind the EU's support of the economic, social and territorial cohesion concept, reducing disparities, increasing security, observing democracy and freedom and social justice, combating terrorism and radicalisation, implementing migration policies aimed at ensuring the security of the Union's external borders.
The MAE, through the Minister-delegate for European Affairs and the European Institute of Romania launched on 9 May 2018 the "Citizenship consultations for the future of the European Union" series. They were held in Arad, Constanta, Panciu, Falticeni, Craiova, Negresti-Oas, Targoviste, Alba Iulia, Bacau, Bucharest.
The initiative sought to be an opportunity for fulfilling Romania's strategic objectives at European level, aiming to highlight and strengthen our country's role in endorsing the development of the European project. Moreover, the actions undertaken in this framework aimed to increase visibility of the European affairs area at national level in relation to the citizens.
Minister-delegate Negrescu says alleged RO-EXIT doesn't exist, never discussed by Romania's decision-makers
Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu stated on Monday that the "alleged RO-EXIT" doesn't exist and it has never been discussed at the level of Romania's decision-makers, being just an idea "launched precisely to spark controversy."
