Minister Delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba on Wednesday paid a working visit to Brussels, in the context of the preparations of Romania's taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union starting 1 January 2019, a release by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES informs.
Ciamba met with Luca Jahier, Chairman of the European Economic and Social Committee, and with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Budget with the European Commission.
According to the release, during his meeting with Luca Jahier, George Ciamba presented Romania's main priorities for the presidency of the EU Council, referring to the events to be staged during its term, included. Moreover, the two officials reviewed the main European agenda's interest topics, such as the Brexit negotiations, the 2021-2027 Multinannual Financial Framework, the election for the European Parliament next spring, the preparations for the Sibiu informal summit, also next spring.
In the context of the talks with Gert Jan Koopman, Minister-delegate George Ciamba voiced the entire willingness of the future Romanian presidency of the EU Council to contribute to the more consistent advancement of the negotiations on the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework, aimed at reaching an agreement in the fall of 2019 on this file. The Romanian dignitary has also emphasised that the Romanian presidency will continue the works regarding the negotiating-box, with the view to improving it and will make efforts to record progress as regards the sectoral legislative proposals, the MAE release adds.
