The Romanian government approved on Wednesday a memorandum on Romania's transformation into a regional hub for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), informs Agerpres.

Romania will become a regional hub of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, providing an efficient platform for the expansion of EBRD operations in Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Greece and, if appropriate, the Republic of Moldova) and strengthening the strategic role of our country in promoting regional economic stability, shows a press release issued by the Romanian executive.

"Romania's commitment to sustainable development objectives makes it a suitable partner for the EBRD, which prioritizes ecological transition and economic sustainability. By establishing a hub in Romania, the EBRD could accelerate the implementation of sustainability initiatives in the region, promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency and green infrastructure projects. Romania became a member of the EBRD in 1991, and this financial institution invests in both the private and public sectors, in areas such as energy, transportation, municipal infrastructure and financial institutions," reads the press release.
