The State Philharmonic of Targu Mures is organising an extraordinary symphonic concert on the National Culture Day, conducted by Shinya Ozaki, with pianist Horia Maxim as soloist.
The programme of the extraordinary concert includes works by Romanian composers: Paul Constantinescu - Piano Concerto and Orchestra - Rhapsody No., Constantin Bobescu - Rhapsody No. 1 and George Enescu - Suite No. 1 for Orchestra in C major, Op. 9.
According to the State Philharmonic of Targu Mures, conductor Shinya Ozaki studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, among his mentors in the art of conducting being Seiji Ozawa, Jean Fournet and Kazuyoshi Akiyama, and has been the principal conductor of the Targu Mures Symphony Orchestra since 1994.
"Over the years, under his baton, orchestras such as the 'George Enescu' Philharmonic Orchestra of Bucharest, the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan) and the Elmira Symphony Orchestra (US) have performed, and he has also appeared at the helm of choral ensembles, including the Hungarian Philharmonic Choir and the Osaka Choral Society. From 1994 to the present, he has served as permanent conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Targu Mures State Philharmonic, while since 2015 he has also been principal guest conductor of the 'Dinu Lipatti' State Philharmonic in Satu Mare," the State Philharmonic of Targu Mures said in a Facebook post.
In 1998, he was awarded the "Pro Urbe" title by the Targu Mures City Hall, in 2001 he received the "Merit of Cultural Exchanges" from the Romanian ambassador to Japan, in 2005 he was honoured with the "Cultural Merit, in rank of Commander" by the President of Romania, and in 2014 he was awarded the "ALAE" title by Mures County.
Throughout his artistic career, Shinya Ozaki has been frequently involved in educational activities, conducting the MBC Youth Orchestra of Japan every August and producing radio and television recordings with the ensemble.
He is one of the founding members of the 'Kumamoto-Romania' Association and the initiator of the study scholarship offered by the association to talented students from Romania, the presentation further notes.
As for Horia Maxim, the State Philharmonic of Targu Mures said he is regarded as one of the finest Romanian pianists of his generation, a musician whose constant presence on concert hall stages offers one of the most important references to his artistic talent.
"The breadth of his stature as a performer is further suggested by the complexity of musical expression he demonstrates in approaching a vast and demanding repertoire, both as a concert soloist - a collaborator, in countless concerts, with most of Romania's symphony orchestras, under the baton of many prestigious conductors - and as a partner of leading Romanian and international artists in chamber recitals held on stages in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Israel, Japan, Switzerland and, of course, in his country of origin," the State Philharmonic of Targu Mures also highlighted.
