The number of children born in October was 15,613, 2,136 fewer than in the previous month, while the number of deaths rose to 44,595 (22,717 men and 21,878 women), up 19,858 (9,796 men and 10,062 women), the National Institute of Statistics (INS) informs in a press release on Friday, agerpres reports.
The number of deaths of children under 1 year of age, recorded in October 2021, was 97, namely 5 more than in September 2021.
In October 2021, more than two-thirds of the total number of deaths were recorded among people aged at least 70 years (18,447 deaths, representing 41.4% of the total, were recorded among people aged 80 and over, and 12,074 deaths, representing 27.1% of the total, in people aged 70-79) and 8,429 deaths (18.9%) among people aged 60-69. On the other hand, the lowest deaths numbers were recorded in the 5-19 age groups (71 deaths), 0-4 years (119 deaths) and 20-29 years (141 deaths).
According to the main cause of death, most people died in October 2021 due to circulatory system diseases (20,836 people, representing 46.7%), respiratory system diseases (14,980 people, representing 33.6%) and tumors (4,184 persons, representing 9.4%). After 4 months in which respiratory diseases were the third leading cause of death, in September and October 2021 respiratory diseases are again the second leading cause of death, a situation recorded in the period October 2020 - April 2021.
Thus, according to INS data, the natural growth remained negative (-28,982) in October 2021, the number of deceased persons being 2.9 times higher than that of live births.
In terms of nuptials and divorce, in October 2021, 10,335 marriages were registered at the civil status offices, 5,578 less than in September 2021, and the number of divorces pronounced by final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 was 2,014, that is 144 fewer.
In October 2021, compared to the same month in 2020, the number of live births was higher by 960, and the natural growth was negative both in October 2021 (-28,982 people) and in October 2020 (-12,901 people).
The number of people who died in October 2021 was 1.6 times higher than in the same period last year. After the first three main causes of death, in October 2021 compared to October 2020, there were 5,917 more deaths due to circulatory system diseases, with 10,570 more deaths due to respiratory system diseases, but with 27 fewer deaths the main cause being tumors.
The number of children under the age of one who died was 4 times lower than in October 2020.
In the urban area, 22,588 people (11,486 men and 11,102 women) died, and in the rural area, 22,007 people (11,231 men and 10,776 women). Compared to the same month in 2020, the number of people who died increased by 8,615 people (3,922 men and 4,693 women) in urban areas and by 8,426 people (3,961 men and 4,465 women) in rural areas.
The number of marriages was, in October 2021, 703 higher than that recorded in the same month of the previous year. By final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 in October 2021 there were pronounced 256 fewer divorces.
