Traffic on roads across the country on Thursday morning is generally taking place under winter conditions, with snowfall mainly in northern and central counties and rain in the southern areas.
The INFOTRAFIC Centre of the Romanian Police Inspectorate General reports that nationwide traffic is generally carried out in winter conditions, with snowfall especially in the northern and central parts of the country. Snow-clearing equipment and anti-skid materials are being used.
In the southern part of the country, precipitation is in the form of rain, with local conditions favourable to the formation of ice, and anti-skid material is being applied.
Several traffic restrictions have been imposed due to weather conditions:
Caras-Severin County - traffic stopped on: DN 6, between the localities of Armenis and Slatina-Timis, as well as in the area of Domasnea; DN 58, between the localities of Soceni and Brebu;
Harghita County - tonnage restriction for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on DN 15A, between the localities of Toplita and Borsec;
Salaj County - tonnage restriction for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on DN 1F, in the area of Meses, kilometre section 68-80.
For safe travel in these winter conditions, police recommend that drivers adapt their speed to traffic and road conditions, avoid any risky manoeuvres, increase the safety distance between vehicles, adopt responsible driving behaviour throughout the journey, and refrain from entering roads closed to traffic.
When travelling on road surfaces covered with ice, black ice or snow, vehicles must be equipped with winter tyres, and in mountainous areas the use of snow chains is also recommended.
