The Ministry of Health informs the population that, during this period, there is an increased intensity of flu activity, with widespread geographic distribution of flu viruses and other viral respiratory infections across the country.
In this context, in order to prevent and limit illness, the Ministry of Health recommends the following measures:
*** General measures for the population
* Visit the general practitioner upon the appearance of respiratory symptoms to establish the appropriate therapeutic approach, the need for home isolation and, if necessary, carrying out additional investigations.
* Wear a protective mask by individuals exhibiting respiratory symptoms when it is necessary to travel in the community, Agerpres informs.
* Adhere to proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, including the use of disposable tissues.
* Maintain strict hand hygiene through frequent washing with water and soap or the use of disinfectant solutions.
* Avoid crowds, frequently ventilate enclosed spaces and wear a protective mask in high-risk situations.
* Continue flu vaccination, prioritising individuals in at-risk categories: those over 65 years old, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and those with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
* Administer antiviral flu treatment, as advised by the doctor, particularly for high-risk individuals, to reduce the likelihood of complications and severe forms of the illness.
*** General measures at healthcare facilities with beds
* The wearing of appropriate protective equipment (masks, gloves, gowns) by medical staff and others who come into contact with patients.
* Limiting visiting hours for patients' relatives, depending on the epidemiological situation.
* Daily epidemiological screening of medical and auxiliary staff, with the recommendation for voluntary home isolation of individuals with respiratory symptoms or their reassignment to roles that do not involve direct patient interaction.
* Ensuring adequate stocks of antivirals, especially in healthcare facilities admitting cases of acute respiratory infections.
* Providing the necessary conditions for flu vaccination of unvaccinated medical and auxiliary staff.
The Ministry of Health is constantly monitoring the development of the epidemiological situation and will continue to provide transparent updates to the public based on available data.
"The observance of these measures is essential in order to protect public health and limit the impact of respiratory infections on the healthcare system," as stated in a post on the Ministry of Health's Facebook page.
