Health Institute records 3,446 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections over July 22-28, a 71pct spike

The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) on Tuesday reported 3,446 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2, for the week July 22 - 28, an increase by 71% against the previous week.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, 1,082 of the new cases were discovered in reinfected patients, who tested positive more than 90 days after they first got infected.

According to the INSP, 9 deaths caused by COVID-19 were reported, among them 8 being new deaths, while one death occured more than a week ago, all people presenting comorbidities.

To date, 68,982 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

In our country, until now, 3,539,775 cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded.

In the same week, 900 RT-PCR tests and 11,850 rapid antigen tests were performed. The positivity rate was 27%, up 6%.

To date, at the national level, 14,021,070 RT-PCR tests and 14,872,346 rapid antigenic tests have been processed.
