Romania is ready to use its bilateral relations both with Israel and the Palestinian Authority in order to help improve the situation in the region, Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu stated on Monday in a post on her X page.
She attended the video-conference of EU foreign affairs ministers, where, among other topics, also discussed was the situation in the Middle East.
"On the situation in Middle East, I emphasised that we should continue to focus on the overarching priorities: an immediate ceasefire; the unconditional release of all hostages and protection of civilians in Gaza, large-scale humanitarian assistance for Gaza, with adequate monitoring by the EU and access to free media on the ground with adequate protection of journalists," she said.
Oana Toiu showed that disarming Hamas is imperative and that this must be done in accordance with international law.
"We stand together with our European partners in the conclusion that the recent announcement of the Israeli government regarding a surge in military activities in Gaza is a decision that needs to be reconsidered as it can't bring us closer to the goal of a ceasefire or the long term two state solution. Increased demands from European citizens for concrete actions and solutions from the EU on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are legitimate in our democracies. Romania is ready to use its bilateral relations both with Israel and with the Palestinian Authority to help improve the situation in the region," the minister conveyed.
