The Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Romanian Youth Orchestra will perform on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the stage of the Palace Hall as part of the George Enescu International Festival, according to the event's website, Agerpres reports.
The concert will be conducted by Manfred Honeck, with violinist Renaud Capuçon as soloist. The program features Mozart's Overture to Don Giovanni K. 527, Korngold's Violin Concerto in D major Op. 35, and Piotr Ilici Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64.
The Ensemble Intercontemporain will perform works by George Enescu - Childhood Impressions Op. 28 for violin and piano - as well as by Pierre Boulez: Dialogue de l'ombre double for clarinet and electronics, 12 Notations for piano, Incises for piano, and Anthčmes 2 for violin and electronics, at 11:00 a.m., at the Auditorium Hall of the National Museum of Art of Romania.
The Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra of Timisoara, under the baton of Sascha Goetzel, with pianist Tatiana Dorokhova as soloist will perform at the Radio Hall at 1:00 p.m. The program will feature George Enescu's The Voice of Nature, Dinu Lipatti's Concertino in Classical Style for piano and chamber orchestra, his Romanian Dances for piano and orchestra, and Calin Ioachimescu's Symphony No. 1.
The Romanian Athenaeum will host the Basel Chamber Orchestra under conductor Pierre Bleuse, featuring cellist Sol Gabetta at 4:30 p.m.. The program will include George Enescu's Chamber Symphony for 12 Instruments, Op. 33, Edouard Lalo's Cello Concerto in D minor, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92.
Accademia Bizantina, conducted by Ottavio Dantone, with soprano Valeria La Grotta and bass Omar Montanari as soloists, will take the stage at 10:30 p.m. at the Athenaeum. The concert, titled The Gold of Naples, will feature works by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, including the Symphony in D major from Lo frate 'nnamorato (second version, 1734), Pasce il mio cor la speme and Doje vipere arraggiate from Lo frate 'nnamorato (first version, 1732), the Violin Concerto in E-flat major, the Symphony in G major from Lo frate 'nnamorato (second version, 1734), Son pur chiari i sensi miei and Il fior di questo core from Lo frate 'nnamorato (second version, 1734), and A un'alma innamorata from Lo frate 'nnamorato (second version, 1734).
The program will also include Io tra Niseta e Mellena from La vedova fedele by Nicola Conforto, the Concerto in C minor for strings by Michele Caballone, and the Concerto grosso No. 5 in D minor by Alessandro Scarlatti.
The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival is taking place in Bucharest and across the country until September 21. This year's edition is themed "Celebrations", marking 70 years since the death of the great composer.
