Electricity became the most expensive in December, increasing by 60.91 percent year on year, though it fell slightly compared with the previous month, by 0.01 percent, while significant increases were also recorded for cocoa and coffee, with annual growth of 24.67 percent, as well as for rail transport, up 24.40 percent, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Wednesday.
Among food items, fresh fruit prices rose 15.19 percent in December 2025 compared with December 2024. Year-on-year price drops were recorded for potatoes, down 11 percent, and beans and other leguminous plants, down 4.14 percent. From month to month in December, the largest increases were seen in coffee, up 3.16 percent, and fresh fruit, up 1.72 percent. Price reductions were recorded for citrus and other southern fruits, down 4.67 percent, and for beans and other leguminous plants, down 1.26 percent.
Among non-food goods, electricity and heating energy were at the top of price increases, with heating energy up 18.80 percent year on year, as well as books, newspapers, and magazines rising 10.16 percent. No year-on-year price decreases were recorded. Compared with the previous month, the largest price increases were for gas, up 2.09 percent and refrigerators and freezers, up 1.22 percent. Price reductions were recorded for fuels, down 1.29 percent, electricity, down 0.01 percent, and varnishes and paints, down 0.03 percent.
In the services sector, the most significant price rises were in rail transport, which increased by 24.40 percent over the past year, air transport, up 18.37 percent and hygiene and cosmetic services, up 17.65 percent. No year-on-year price decreases were recorded in this sector either.
Month-on-month in December, significant increases were recorded in air transport, with fares up 17.99 percent and rail transport, up 9.79 percent. In contrast, car transport subscriptions fell by 0.19 percent.
