The Minister of National Defense, Radu Miruta, met on Friday, in Munich, with his counterpart from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes, with whom he discussed recent developments in the security environment.
According to a press release from the Defense Ministry (MapN) sent to AGERPRES, the dialogue, which took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, aimed to deepen Romanian-Luxembourgish cooperation in the field of Defense, both in an allied context and from the perspective of joint contributions to European Union initiatives regarding the consolidation of the defense industry.
"The two officials discussed recent developments in the security environment, with an emphasis on the regional implications of the war in Ukraine and the strategic role of the Black Sea region in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture. The strategic relevance of the transatlantic relationship was also underlined," the release said.
Minister Miruta stressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to strengthening the allied deterrence and defense posture, highlighting the participation with forces in the NATO Battle Group deployed in Cincu, as well as the involvement in other allied projects in Romania, the MapN added.
"The meeting reconfirmed the favorable evolution of the Romanian-Luxembourgish relationship and the convergence of vision regarding the need for closer European cooperation, capable of generating credible capabilities, stimulating innovation and strengthening the continent's security, in full complementarity with Euro-Atlantic commitments," the quoted source indicated.
