Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that his relationship with President Nicusor Dan is institutionally "correct" and that he has noticed the president has supported the government's initiatives "on all fundamental issues".
"We have a correct institutional relationship, we cooperate, we meet regularly, and at least on all matters of foreign policy or defense, our teams have worked in a convergent way, so that Romania has unified positions in these areas, given that certain responsibilities - for example within the European Commission and the European Council - are shared between ministries, the government and the president," Bolojan said on Europa FM, referring to his relationship with the head of the state.
Asked whether the president should support him more on reforms, the prime minister argued that delays in this area are caused by a lack of support within the coalition.
"These reforms, in my view, are a necessity; they do not depend on one political colour or another, or on a particular context. To implement them, you need a critical mass within the coalition. The delays we have had are caused by the lack of support in the coalition, we must acknowledge that. (...) On all fundamental issues, I have noticed that the president has stood by the government's initiatives," the prime minister added.
Bolojan gave as an example the meeting with magistrates on the issue of special pensions, held at the Cotroceni Palace in the presence of the president. "He organized that mediation, and when he saw that the government's position was rational, you saw that we were aligned," he said.
Asked about the report concerning the annulment of the 2024 presidential election, the prime minister replied that the president may present it if he considers it necessary, noting that the government has no competence in this area.
"If the president considers it necessary, he can explain it, he can present this report, I have no issue with that, and it will be his decision. The government has no competence in this field," he stated.
