Despite global economic and financial uncertainty, Romania continues on its path of development and steady modernization, Apostolic Nuncio to Romania Monsignor Giampiero Gloder, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Romania, said Thursday.
"In the year that ended, Romania completed a complex electoral process, proving its ability to maintain solid democratic structures, safeguard national defense and security, and protect the free will of voters. Elections are always a fundamental moment in any democracy and demand transparency and responsibility for the good of all," Gloder said at President Nicusor Dan's annual meeting with heads of diplomatic missions at the Cotroceni Palace.
According to the Apostolic Nuncio, "Romania's ongoing modernization - including digital transformation and integration into the European context - continues despite global uncertainty". He pointed to the completion of the Schengen accession process as a clear sign of progress and expressed hope that "the country's development will continue through policies based on stability, allowing for greater national well-being".
The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps spoke about the current global situation, noting rising inequality and migration.
"In several countries, internal divisions are deepening, with societies polarized by forms of confrontation lacking calm and respectful dialogue. As a result, we are witnessing social instability, driven more by polemics than by the pursuit of broad and collaborative participation. These dynamics reveal a deeper structural fragility," the Apostolic Nuncio pointed out.
He conveyed to the president the commitment of the countries and institutions represented by the diplomats "to continue valuable relations and efficient collaboration."
