The Romanian Customs Authority (AVR) has recently put into operation the first modern mobile X-ray scanning system for goods shipments at the Constanta Border Customs Office (BVF), it reported on Friday.
"On September 15, 2025, the Romanian Customs Authority (...) put into operation a mobile X-ray scanning system of goods transport (trucks and containers) at the Constanta Border Customs Office. This system is the first of the three scanning systems to be located in the Port of Constanta. At the same time, at the Constanta Sud border customs office, works have started y to set up space for the radiological protection of the new fixed X-ray scanning system for goods transport (trucks/containers). The system will be put into operation by the end of November 2025," according to AVR.
AVR has so far put into operation, at the external border of the European Union (EU), ten X-ray scanning systems, six of which are for cars and minibuses, and four for goods transport, trailers and containers.
By the end of 2025, two more X-ray scanning systems for goods transport, trucks and containers will be put into operation at BVF Constanta Sud and BVF Isaccea.
The Romanian Customs Authority is carrying out a national security project on non-repayable European funds and funds from the national budget in excess of EUR 138,000,000, which provides for the equipping of the border customs offices with 30 X-ray scanning systems, security and border traffic monitoring systems and their integration with the National Centre for Customs Image Analysis, as well as with other non-destructive testing equipment.
AVR said that through these initiatives, they continue their steps to increase customs clearing capacity and to strengthen a modern customs system, capable of meeting the current challenges and ensuring an optimal balance between security and the fluidisation of cross-border traffic.
