Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said Friday in Timisoara that the Government might resume regionalisation talks, but the final decision on such a project is political.
"I have always been a supporter of regionalisation out of very practical, pragmatic reasons. The incumbent government can certainly resume the talks, and it will probably do so to the extent there is availability, but we have to understand that there are some things, some decisions that have to be made at a political level, which no technocrat government, good or bad, could undertake instead of politicians, which are elected by the people. Besides the practical, pragmatic aspects of it, regionalisation is itself a political decision in the Romanian context. The Government could resume the talks, but the decision will have to be a political one; in my opinion if should be a political decision free of political or politicking pressure, with short-term and electoral objectives," Ciolos told a news conference.
He added that he discussed the matter with Deputy Prime Minister Vasile Dincu.
"I have had a conversation with Mr Deputy Prime Minister Dincu about how to resume certain things so that we may advance a little. But, there are things that cannot be settled under emergency ordinances just because the law allows it. If there is no common sense in politics and governance we will only satisfy the short-term interests of some or others, but this is not how to push the society to evolve and trust the state organisations, the Government included," added Ciolos.
