Chinese investor interest in Romania is reflected in the 14,562 companies with Chinese capital currently active on the local market, and the next step is to turn this commercial presence into concrete investments and production capacity on Romanian soil, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) Mihai Daraban said during a meeting this week with China's ambassador to Romania, Chen Feng.

"China is already one of Romania's most important trading partners, and the figures prove it unequivocally. The interest of Chinese investors is also reflected by the 14,562 Chinese-owned companies active in Romania, with subscribed capital exceeding 337 million euros. What we propose at CCIR level is to take the next step: to transform this commercial interest into real investments, into production capacities located on Romanian territory," Daraban said, according to a CCIR press release.

He highlighted Romania's advantages for potential investors: direct access to the EU market, the Port of Constanta as a strategic hub between the Black Sea and Central Europe, skilled workforce and high-potential sectors ranging from energy and agri-food processing to technology. "Romania must become a production and export platform for Chinese companies that are seriously looking towards Europe," he added.

Ambassador Chen Feng underlined the long-standing relationship between the two countries and the growing interest of Chinese companies in Romania, particularly in new energy and manufacturing.

"Romania is a traditional partner and a close friend of China, with an uninterrupted cooperative relationship of 77 years. Chinese companies are showing a growing interest in the Romanian market, especially in the fields of new energy and manufacturing. We want to see an intensification of quality Romanian exports to China and, at the same time, to encourage companies from both countries to collaborate in sectors with high added value, because agri-food products are a good start, but the potential of our partnership goes much further," the ambassador said.

According to official data, bilateral trade between Romania and China has continued to grow, reaching 8.56 billion euros in 2024 and 8.8 billion euros in the first eleven months of 2025.
