Bucharest will apply to host the Cities Forum 2027, an event of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission.
The event focuses on supporting EU cities, in particular through the urban dimension of Cohesion Policy.
The General Council of Bucharest (CGMB), meeting on Tuesday, adopted a resolution approving the submission of the candidacy.
According to the explanatory memorandum accompanying the draft resolution, now at its seventh edition, the Cities Forum represents an opportunity for the host to showcase its strengths and contribute to discussions on urban development. The event aims to host around 800 participants for one and a half to two days and is scheduled to take place between April and June 2027.
Under the adopted resolution, the Mayor General is authorised to submit, on behalf of the municipality, the application dossier to host the Cities Forum 2027 in Bucharest. The application must be submitted by Tuesday at 14:00 Central European Time.
The Bucharest Metropolitan Area Intercommunity Development Association has been designated as the contact and coordination point for the organisation of the event.
The Permanent Secretariat of the European Urban Initiative will have a dedicated budget and support from an events agency available throughout the entire process of organising the Cities Forum 2027.
The host city is required to make a partial contribution by providing a venue for the events, organising site visits, assisting with communication and other activities.
The final decision regarding the host city of the Cities Forum 2027 will be officially announced at the meeting of Directors-General for Urban Matters on 15 April.
