Bucharest Stock Exchange marks 30 years since its re-establishment through series of anniversary events

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) celebrated, on November 20, 2025, thirty years since its reopening through a series of anniversary events together with various representatives of the Romanian capital market, according to a press release from the BVB.

"The Bucharest Stock Exchange today reflects the maturity of investors, listed companies and all professionals involved. 30 years have passed in which the Romanian capital market has evolved significantly - the number of listed companies has increased to over 330, the total stock market capitalization is approaching 500 billion lei, financial instruments have diversified, and investors are increasingly numerous from one quarter to the next, currently exceeding 274,000 investment accounts at the BVB. I firmly believe that the coming decades will bring an even stronger development of the capital market, which will consolidate its position and attractiveness internationally and will give us more and more confidence in the potential of the Romanian economy", said Remus Vulpescu, CEO of BVB on this occasion.

On the first day, on November 17, two panels dedicated to investors at the Stock Exchange took place at the BVB headquarters. The first panel brought together retail investors, some of whom were just starting out, in a captivating discussion about the Romanian capital market and investment decisions. The second panel discussion on the first day had as its central topic investments from the perspective of fund managers.

On the second day, on November 18, attention was paid to BVB brokers. On November 19, the bell in the Bell Wing of the Bucharest Stock Exchange symbolically rang, on the occasion of the opening of the trading session and the celebration of 30 years of BVB activity, in the company of representatives of issuers and authorities.

The day of November 20, when BVB officially celebrated 30 years since the first transactions carried out after reopening, was dedicated to the employees of the BVB Group.

"Looking back, 30 years of BVB have meant significant growth on the capital market: from 9 companies listed in 1995, there are now over 330; compared to 2019 when there were 54,000 investors on BVB, at the end of September this number exceeded 274,000; currently, the capitalization of the Stock Exchange is over 480 billion lei, while in 1995 its value was 25.9 million lei; in 2023, the historic listing of Hidroelectrica took place, with an IPO worth 1.9 billion euros; the Fidelis government bond program has attracted over 60 billion lei since it was relaunched in 2020; the number of transactions has increased significantly - from 379 transactions in 1995, to 1.72 million transactions at the end of September 2025; the total value of transactions reached over 31 billion lei at the end of September 2025, from 246,000 lei in 1995, reaching a historical record of 38 billion lei in 2023; the average daily liquidity for all instruments was 49,281 lei in 1995, and at the end of September 2025 it exceeded 168.8 million lei. At the same time, the BET index, the main index of the BVB, launched in 1997, reached a new historical maximum of 20,000 points this year, while BET-TR, the variant of the BET index that also includes the reinvestment of dividends, exceeded the threshold of 50,000 points," the press release reads.

Currently, 25 companies listed on the BVB have at least one Market Maker. Regarding the representativeness of BVB issuers in international indices, 12 companies are included in the FTSE Russell Emerging Markets indices, and 34 companies are included in the MSCI indices. In fact, in 2025, MSCI recognized the Romanian capital market as an Advanced Frontier Market, which symbolizes a milestone towards obtaining Emerging Market status for Romania from MSCI.
