The average net earnings in Romania in June 2025 were standing at RON 5,539, up RON 31 (+0.6%) from May 2025, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
.The average gross earnings were RON 9,246, up RON 59 (+0.6%) from May 2025.
The highest values of the average net earnings were recorded in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (RON 12,656) and in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (including information service activities) (RON 11,957), while the lowest in accommodation and food service activities (RON 3,367 lei) and in manufacture of wearing apparel (RON 3,442).
As against June 2024, the average net earnings increased by 7.0%.
The real earnings index1 was 101.3% in June 2025 as against June 2024.The real earnings index was 100.1% in June 2025 as against May 2025. As against October 1990, the real earnings index was 254.9%, up 0.3 % from May 2025.
"During the year, there are fluctuations of the earnings, mainly determined by granting of annual and holiday bonuses, especially in the months taken as comparison base (December, March/April). These influence the increases or decreases depending on the period they are granted, finally leading to smoothing the fluctuations in monthly earnings at the level of the whole year," according to INS.
In June 2025 as against May 2025 , in the majority of activities belonging to the economic sector, the level of the average net earnings increased due to granting of the occasional bonuses (quarterly, annual or for outstanding performance), payments in kind and other allowances, amounts from the net profit and other funds (including value tickets).
Also, the increases in the average net earnings were due to the production achievements or higher receipts (depending on contracts/projects), as well as staff cut downs, having lower earnings as against the average, in certain economic activities.
The most significant increases in the average net earnings at section/division level of CANE Rev.2 have been recorded 10.7% in publishing activities, respectively by 10.1% in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers; between 5.5% and 8.5% in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, telecommunications, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, mining support service activities, insurance, reinsurance and pension funding (except compulsory social security)
Also there were between 3.5% and 5.0% raises in other service activities, manufacture of machinery and equipment, manufacture of electrical equipment, manufacture of other transport equipment, mining of metal ores, other mining and quarrying, crop and animal production, hunting and related service activities, manufacture of beverages, motion picture, video and television programmes production, sound recording and music publishing activities (including programming and broadcasting activities), computer programming, consultancy and related activities (including information service activities).
Decreases in the average net earnings as against May 2025 were determined by occasional bonuses (quarterly, annual, for outstanding performance or Easter holiday bonuses), payments in kind and other allowances, amounts from the net profit and other funds (including value tickets) granted in the previous months, but also by production un-achievements or lower receipts level (depending on contracts/projects).
Increases of between 1.0% and 2.5% were recorded in water collection, treatment and supply, land transport and transport via pipelines, manufacture of basic metals, sewerage.
In the public sector in June 2025, decreases of the average net earnings, as against the previous month, were registered in education (-4.2%) due to the amounts' reduction representing the hourly payments of teaching staff during summer holiday, and in public administration (-0.1%). In human health and social work activities, the average net earnings levelled out.
