AGERPRES special correspondent to Paris, France, Adrian Tone reports:
Emotions do not necessarily need colour to reach the soul, especially when we talk about collection pictures taken by AGERPRES photojournalists throughout many editions of the Olympic Games, fragments of sports history displayed on Thursday at the opening of the Romanian House in Paris.
Attending the opening of the photo exhibition called '110 years of Olympism' inside the Romanian Embassy in Paris were President of Romania Klaus Iohannis; ambassador of Romania to France Ioana Bivolaru; Chairwoman of the National Agency for Sports Elisabeta Lipa; Chairman of the Romanian Olympic Sports Committee (COSR) Mihai Covaliu; athletes qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris; personalities from the world of sports and politics.
Some of the more than 100 collection pictures taken by AGERPRES photojournalists throughout the 110 years of Romanian Olympism were also exhibited on the outer fence of the Romanian Embassy.
Legendary Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who went down in the history of world sports as the first gymnast to score a perfect 10, said she was moved after seeing the pictures of the Romanian athletes.
"It is really touching everything I saw here, at the Romanian House at the Romanian Embassy in Paris. They are emotional pictures, moments that Romanian athletes experienced and we thank those who captured the emotions in these images. Whenever we talk about the Olympic Games, we talk about emotions. I am always impressed," said Comaneci.
AGERPRES National News Agency Director General Claudia Nicolae told the first visitors that the exhibition is the respect of the news organisation to the athletes who brought glory to Romania.
"It is our honour, of the National News Agency AGERPRES, at 110 years of Olympism in Romania. A unique collection of photographs that highlight over a century of Romanian triumph in the purest Olympic spirit. It is the respect that the whole of Romania pays to its heroes at the Olympic Games. AGERPRES has only done its duty. We exist to introduce you to the heroes. The glory is theirs," said Nicolae.
Romania's House at the Romanian Embassy in Paris opened on Thursday for the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, in the presence of President Iohannis. Also attending the event were President Klaus Iohannis' wife Carmen Iohannis; National Bank of Romania (BNR) Deputy Governor Eugen Nicolaescu; athletes running in the 2024 Olympic Games; retired gymnast Nadia Comaneci, and Octavian Morariu, a member on the International Olympic Committee.
