The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6% in January, down 0.1 percentage points compared with December 2025, while youth unemployment remains at a high level of 28.2%, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Wednesday.
The number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 estimated for the first month of the year was 490,500, decreasing both compared with the previous month, when 498,500 unemployed persons were recorded, and with the same period of the previous year, when there were 494,700 unemployed persons.
By gender, the unemployment rate for men exceeded that for women by 0.1 percentage points, standing at 6% for men and 5.9% for women.
'The high level of the youth unemployment rate of 28.2% among those aged 15-24, recorded in the period October-December 2025, continues to be of concern,' the National Institute of Statistics showed.
For adults aged 25-74, the unemployment rate was estimated at 4.5% in January 2026, 4.6% for men and 4.4% for women. The number of unemployed persons aged 25-74 represents 71.1% of the total number of unemployed persons estimated for January 2026.
