The condition of the Greek national who remains hospitalized after Tuesday's traffic accident in Timis County is stable, following a surgical intervention performed at the Timisoara County Hospital.
The other two Greek survivors of the accident were discharged and left for Greece on Thursday morning.
"In the patient diagnosed with a cervical spine fracture, MRI imaging revealed marked spinal cord edema without corresponding neurological deficits. Given the risk of secondary neurological deterioration, the medical team performed an emergency decompressive procedure and cervical spine stabilization. The surgery went without complications. Postoperatively, the patient remains sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated, with stable vital parameters. He is under continuous monitoring and receiving complex supportive care, and will be assessed by a multidisciplinary team. Under these circumstances, transfer will not be carried out today, the decision being based solely on patient safety. The other two patients were evaluated, found to be clinically stable, and at 10:00 were transported to Timisoara International Airport, where they were taken over by a medical aircraft for transfer to Greece," the Timisoara County Hospital said in a release on Thursday.
The bodies of the seven Greek citizens who died in the accident will be repatriated on Thursday afternoon by military aircraft, with Metropolitan Ioan of Banat to officiate a religious service at the airport.
