Sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles in Romania increased in volume in 2025 by 4.1%, unadjusted, from 2024, with the largest advance being recorded in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+16.4%), according to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Wednesday.
There were also increases in the sale of motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+9.2%), sale of motor vehicles (+3.6%) and sale of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+1%).
The December 2025 total volume of wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, unadjusted decreased by 9.1% on monthly basis as a result of decreases in the sale in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-25.5%), sale of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (-15.7%), sale of motor vehicles (-7.0%) and maintenance and repair of motor vehicles(-1.2%).
Seasonally adjusted, the total wholesale and retail, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 1.5% in December 2025 from the previous month.
According to INS data, in December 2025, compared with December 2024, the wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, unadjusted, recorded an increase of 6.8% on increases in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+12.8%), sale of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+6.5%), sale of motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+6.3%) and sale of motor vehicles (+6.1%).
When seasonally adjusted, the volume of the wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 6.7% from December 2024.
