Climber Adrian Ahritculesei has summited Mount Vinson (4,892 meters), the highest peak in Antarctica, as part of the Seven Summits Circuit in which he set out to climb the highest mountain on each continent, his manager Adrian Stefan Jurca announced on Wednesday.
"I'm on Vinson" is the message the mountaineer sent his manager on Tuesday night.
"Adrian sent a message announcing his achievement around 10:00 p.m. (Romania time). Mount Vinson is the highest peak in Antarctica. It is the sixth peak conquered by Adrian in his Seven Summits endeavor which includes the highest mountaintops on each continent. He still has to check off the highest peak in North America, Mount McKinley (6,194 meters), located in Alaska," the athlete's manager told AGERPRES.
Adrian Ahritculesei, known for having scaled Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and the seven highest volcanoes in the world, left for Antarctica on December 27 last year, determined to climb Mount Vinson (4,892 meters), the highest on the continent.
Before his departure, the climber said that he had trained intensely for this expedition; in January 2023 he successfully tackled Antarctica's Mount Sidley (4,283 meters) as part of the circuit of the world's highest volcanoes.
Adrian Ahritculesei has several major ascent achievements under his belt, including the conquest of Mount Everest in May 2024 and the completion of the Seven Volcanoes Circuit in January 2023, thus becoming the first Romanian male climber to record such a performance.
The 42-year-old, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports in Timisoara, works as an optometrist at a company in Petrosani.
