Romania wins silver and bronze in mixed doubles at European youth table tennis championships

Romania on Friday won silver and bronze medals in the mixed doubles event at the European Youth Table Tennis Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

In the final, Iulian Chirita and the Welshwoman Anna Hursey lost to Daniel Berzosa (Spain)/Veronika Matiunina (Ukraine) 2-3 (11-3, 8-11, 11-8, 5-11, 2-11).

Chirita and Hursey had won 3-1 (9-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8) in the semifinals against the Romanian-Portuguese duo Bianca Mei-Rosu/Tiago Abiodun, who thus won the bronze medals.

In singles, Dragos Bujor, Iulian Chirita, Andreea Jifcu, Bianca Mei-Rosu and Alesia Sferlea will play on Saturday in the junior events.

In the cadet category, there are three Romania athletes in the round of 16: David Toro, Patricia Stoica and Maya Madar.

There are also Romanians competing in the quarterfinals of the junior doubles events: doubles Iulian Chirita (Romania)/Tiago Abiodun (Portugal), DragosBujor/Robert Istrate, and Bianca Mei-Rosu (Romania)/Sara Tokic (Slovenia).

Rounding up Romania's medal tally in Ostrava is also a gold medal in the boys' juniors team event.

At the 2024 European Youth Table Tennis Championships, Romania won 11 medals (4-3-4). AGERPRES
