The Romanian women's tennis team lost 2 - 0 to Latvia on Wednesday in Pool C of the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group I, at the Complexo de Ténis do Jamor in Oeiras (Portugal), after Elena-Ruxandra Bertea was defeated by Adelina Lachinova 6 - 0, 7 - 5.
Bertea (WTA 292) was beaten in one hour and 43 minutes by the much lower-ranked Lachinova (WTA 611).
In the opening singles match, Gabriela Lee (WTA 349) lost to Beatrise Zeltina (WTA 620) 6 - 4, 4 - 6, 6 - 1.
The doubles match will feature Ilinca-Dalina Amariei / Carmen-Andreea Herea against Daniela Darta Feldmane / Beatrise Zeltina.
Romania leads Latvia 4 - 1 in the head-to-head record.
The Romanian team faces France, Latvia and Norway in Pool C of the Europe/Africa Group I, with matches scheduled in Oeiras over April 7 - 11.
Non-playing captain Alexandra Dulgheru has called up Elena-Ruxandra Bertea, Gabriela Lee, Ilinca-Dalina Amariei, Carmen-Andreea Herea and Anamaria-Federica Oana for the tournament.
