Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Monday that the National Liberal Party (PNL) and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will continue to argue that reforms must be implemented swiftly, as the state budget needs to be built on a reality that would better serve Romania.
"As you know, the National Liberal Party has consistently argued that reforms must be implemented as swiftly as possible. This coalition involves more than just the PNL, a fact that must be taken into account. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will continue to press for rapid reforms, particularly as the state budget is currently being drafted and would have benefited from being based on a reality more conducive to Romania's needs. We will see what the coalition decides in the coming days. We are mindful of the holidays, but this should not stop us from making decisions, and Parliament can sit in extraordinary sessions if need be," Abrudean said.
The Senate president considers there is too much talk and too little action, noting that excessive debate and insufficient follow-through only deepen public distrust. He stresses that efficiency and delivering on promises should be prioritised, particularly given the commitment made to reforms.
Asked about the fact that no meetings of the governing coalition had taken place either before or after the local by-elections, Abrudean said he cannot comment on coalition relations or changes in dynamics, directing questions to party leader Bolojan, who attends the meetings.
"I do not think anything should change. Things should move forward because people, Romanians, expect solutions from us; they do not expect debates, discussions and disputes. Certainly, a signal of stability must exist, this coalition must move forward, and this will also be seen today during the no-confidence motion," Senate President Mircea Abrudean added.
