Number of building permit for residential buildings increase 4.9% in January

The number of building permits issued for residential buildings increased 4.9% in January 2025 compared to the same month last year, reaching 1,918, while the total useful area reached 468,930 square meters, an 11.4% increase, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.

Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 70% are for rural areas.

In January 2025, there was a noticeable increase in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings compared to the same month of the previous year (+89 permits).

According to INS data, in January 2025, increases were recorded in the following development regions: West (+45 permits), South-Muntenia (+40), Center (+14), Bucharest-Ilfov (+12), North-West (+7), and South-West Oltenia (+5). On the other hand, declines were registered in the regions of South-East (-20 permits) and North-East (-14).

Regarding non-residential buildings, in January 2025, 345 building permits were issued for such buildings, a 7% decrease compared to January 2024, with a total useful area of 363,919 square metres (+136.6%).

"Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, in January 2025, there was an increase in the useful area for building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+210,122 square metres). Regionally, this increase is reflected in the following development regions: South-West Oltenia (+184,009 square meteres), North-West (+20,887), North-East (+11,362), Bucharest-Ilfov (+3,679), and Centre (+2,597). Decreases were recorded in the following regions: West (-7,437 square meters), South-Muntenia (-3,158), and South-East (-1,817)," INS said in the press release sent to AGERPRES.
