More than 136,000 vulnerable people benefited from the National Food Collection held between 5 and 7 December, according to a press release from the Federation of Food Banks in Romania (FBAR).
The 2025 Christmas edition of the National Food Collection was organised by FBAR and the nine regional food banks, bringing together people from across the country who turned their grocery shopping into real support for those most in need.
According to the source, during the three days of the campaign, 957 tonnes of non-perishable food were donated, equivalent to more than 1.9 million meal portions, which will be distributed in the coming period through the network of food banks and 441 partner NGOs to 136,621 vulnerable people nationwide.
Under the slogan 'Together we feed hope', the campaign involved 14,168 volunteers, 3,649 more than in the previous edition, as well as 1,082 participating shops, 65 more compared with the previous year.
Since the launch of the campaign in 2019 and up to the present, people have donated more than 3,000 tonnes of food.
FBAR and the nine regional food banks in Bucharest, Cluj, Roman, Brasov, Oradea, Timisoara, Constanta, Craiova and Galati form a national network of solidarity that saves food from waste on a daily basis and turns it into real support for vulnerable communities.
The organisation is a member of the European Federation of Food Banks, FEBA, and since 2016 has saved more than 39,000 tonnes of food, transformed into over 76 million meal portions, distributed through 916 NGOs to 325,000 vulnerable people.
