Romania's meat production increased in October 2025 for pigs, sheep and goats, and poultry, while it fell for cattle compared with the previous month, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Compared with October 2024, meat production rose for sheep and goats and poultry, but fell for cattle and pigs.
In October 2025, 333,000 pigs were slaughtered, up 7.07% from September 2025, when 311,000 animals were slaughtered. Compared with the same period in 2024, the number of slaughters was down 2.92%.
Pig meat production totalled 30,231 tonnes in October 2025, up 11.28% from September 2025. However, compared with the same month in 2024, production fell by 1.33%.
According to INS, 316,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered in October 2025, more than the 299,000 animals in September. In October 2024, 322,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered.
Carcass weight for sheep and goats increased in October 2025 compared with both the previous month and October 2024. Meat production for sheep and goats reached 4,578 tonnes in October 2025, up 5.24% from September and 4.93% compared with October 2024.
Poultry meat production, at 56,453 tonnes, rose in October 2025 both from the previous month, up 7.24%, and compared with October 2024, up 12.96%.
Statistical data show that 33.685 million poultry were slaughtered in October 2025, up 6.63% from 31.591 million in September and up 12.37% compared with 29.976 million in October 2024.
Cattle meat production totalled 6,540 tonnes in October 2025, down 10.64% from 7,319 tonnes in September. Compared with 6,958 tonnes in October 2024, the decrease was 6%.
During the period analysed, 40,000 cattle were slaughtered, down 9.09% from 44,000 in September 2025, and down 6.98% compared with October 2024.
